We drove up to Idaho Springs on Sunday just to get away from the city and the heat.

We were delighted to see that they had blocked off Miner Street where most of the restaurants are located in order to expand dining onto the sidewalk and into the street. It eased our minds to be able to eat outdoors. Actually, we ordered to-go sandwiches from Two Brothers Deli and had a picnic in the park, but we could have eaten on the tables set outside. “We just started this on Thursday,” said a spokesman from the store. “It’s been working out great!”

For summer dining, this is a perfect model for small mountain towns that are able to divert traffic to alternate streets. I hope we see more of it.

  1. Wonderful blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally confused .. Any recommendations? Thanks!
